@veer66 Ah. I learned Common Lisp in college. How would you compare it with Clojure?

I did not expect to see this kind of introspection from Linus Torvalds https://lkml.org/lkml/2018/9/16/167
@liz7 Hi Liz! Welcome to the party!
@veer66 How has learning Clojure affected your Ruby? I love Ruby, it serves my day to day needs well, but I do like learning to think in new ways.
@mookie Yes! QEMM and DESQview! And I had to throw a TSR screen reader into the mix. I keep wanting the BBS to return for exactly that reason. We had to go through so much to have a two-line BBS. Now we can easily have it with the internet and modern operating systems.
've decided to learn a functional programming language. I enjoyed #Lisp in college so have considered #Clojure and maybe a #Scheme dilect. Some friends have tried to conince me to go with #Elixir, especially because I already do a lot of work in #Ruby. I do appreciate the elegant Lisp syntax and its rich history.
Speaking of H/P/A, a friend triggered her work's firewall by trying to listen to this weird piece of audio from the Phone Losers of America. http://www.phonelosers.org/media/Relay_Operators_Summer_Nights.mp3
@triptych Hopefully they will remember that they got in trouble for something like this in the past.
@DigitalMisfit Hey great to know! I use a screen reader so that feedback helps.
@blurrythoughts I felt the same way so bought an Essential Phone.

@jrconlin A friend and I recently went through this dilemma. We use rclone to do cloud backups, but could easily configure it to make encrypted backups to an external drive. Then take it to a safe deposit box or whatever and there you go, super safe storage that you own. It still seems tempting even after getting cloud storage working, or perhaps because of it.
I have a meditation app in the works, so today's #AppleWatch announcement about improved heart rate monitoring interests me.
Why I'm staying with Mastodon.
@DigitalMisfit I use Arch Linux. The install disk comes up at a shell prompt. You can't get much more lightweight than that. I've thought about switching to a distribution without SystemD though, such as Slackware or Void Linux.
