Once in a while a small thing will connect two streams of thought and give a new perspective.
Growing up, 'world history' was always separated from domestic developments in the US. So a brief paragraph in Hidden Figures about how diplomats from Asia, Africa, and the Caribbean were treated during the height of the Cold War pulls into focus how the Fed's need for positive propaganda internationally may have helped create the situation that made the successes of the Civil Rights movement possible.
Hey fediverse, I'm trying to think of some cool, obscure and friendly mythical creatures from existing folklore. The kind who could plausibly be friends of a young child. Anyone have any suggestions? :D
Cuilmate and I finally collared our sub/my nesting partner last night.
Ceremony was casual with frequent silliness, and absolutely US. much fun and awesome. And a little Tony Danza.
No pics of the ceremony, but pics of the beautiful collar made by @Sheinicorn coming whenever I get around to uploading them.

(am also totally ok being corrected by others who celebrate Lunar New Year on this, just passing on what I've been told)
Hey folks -- it's the Chinese New Year, but also the Vietnamese New Year, etc.! So Lunar New Year may be more appropriate wishes (or just -- new year!) -- cf. convos with one of my best friends, who's Vietnamese-American.
(also, super jealous my husband got to be out there this past weekend during some celebrations while I remained states away womp)
Visiting #polyam fam and enjoying the chance to relax and let folks take care of me for a change. Fams kitchen is a perfect spot for #birdwatching. saw several blue Jays and a red headed woodpecker this morning.
RT @jessmahler Next is what looks like a black rubber manikin lying on the ground. "I will hear you," the sign says, "but don't expect me to respond."
Lastly, a person, naked except for a full face hood, is on hands and knees holding a tray on their back. On the tray is a business card holder. "Please take one. See you next week!"

RT @jessmahler Walking down a residential street, you come across an .... Unusual display. First, stands a sign that reads "Ask -- but no touching". Next to the sign, a naked, blindfolded person hangs from a St. Andrew's cross.
A few feet past them, another person, wearing a collar, ears, and puppy tail, plays with a squeaky bone. The leash on their collar is staked to the ground. The sign next to them reads "Warning -- guard dog"

Hello, i hope you're doing well. Life is a bit though here but I keep going, one sparkly piece at the time. If you want to support me in my queer conquest of capitalism here is the link to my shop. Thanks a lot 🌈
RT @therisingtithes I dig The Blacklist, I dig Raymond Reddington, but it says *plenty* on a narrative level that a white criminal on the death penalty can tell a police officer that the only reason they illegally searched him is a matter of disrespect, and it's considered charming.
I totally forgot that this gem of a site exists, but for everyone who wants to do #gameDev stuff, this might be a good place to look for assets?

all identity-based communities are coalitions. if you try to shut people out, people will pound on the door until they're let in, or break down the door (or make an adjacent room, then knock down an also-adjacent wall).
belonging is powerful medicine. especially when you've spent your entire life being told "you don't belong here".
In case anybody wants to know what #ableist #microaggressions, here are some examples of seemingly-small but frequent reminders of how one is seen by others, by loved ones, perhaps even by oneself. Many of these come in the form of discussions about other people, or qualities that the speaker may not consider anybody present to share, but still. "I didn't mean you" is cold comfort considering the frequency and severity.
