Useful tip for Fediverse instance admins, gab

Gab actually uses a custom user agent to grab stuff.

Mastodon does the same, but this makes it easy to make sure gab instances can't pull from you!

add
if ($http_user_agent ~* (gabsocial)) {
return 403;
}

To your nginx configuration. That blocks all requests with a user agent that includes "gabsocial" (case insensitive)

You can also add other user agents, at your leisure

It just returns a 403 if they try to pull

With numbers of migrant workers declining, agricultural giants are now shifting towards the use of prisoners to fill the void. Under the 13th amendment, prisoners can be worked like slaves by the State and do not have to be paid. hcn.org/articles/agriculture-f

By the by, if any of you want me to write about a specific topic, or answer a specific question, I'm willing to consider it. You can also bribe me to do so, under the condition whatever I write is mine and I can license how I want.

I know that's conceited to offer but I'm getting hella positive feedback on my recent writing about Fediverse culture.

Also if you've enjoyed my writing to date, you can donate at emsenn.net/support/

This quantification isn't for woke points™️ it's for acknowledgement that "working class" has been used as an exclusionary category. "you can't be a working class trans lesbian, the working class hate lesbians and trans people!" as if you somehow gained the means of production by coming out.

When I say "working class" I don't mean white. I don't mean abled. I don't mean cis I don't mean straight and I don't mean citizens. There's so many things I don't mean that I can't list them all.

And it sure as hell is philosophically interesting that the idea of the working class in the west is a white guy with a wife and 2.5 kids working 40 hours a week in a factory.

Philosophy that's about navigating logical technicalities can go die mad. I'm so done with it.

There are no borders to the scope of philosophy and philosophical discussion.

There is no "real philosophy" and "not real philosophy".

To say otherwise is to enclose discussion on the comfortable domain of words by dead men who wouldn't shut up about skulls.

If you can't see why sociology or leftist political discussion or art or lived experiences of the working class aren't philosophically relevant you're kind of... bad at philosophy.

Re-reading Black Wolves of Boston, and it hits me that the way Wen writes Joshua-as-a-werewolf, it's like he's one part of a plural system and the wolf is the other part, and they haven't figured out how to talk to each other.

I doubt that's meant to be canon, but makes for good headcannon, and AFAI can tell, good rep.

Morning all.

Good news is I finished one major stressor yesterday. Got some final loose ends to tie up, but the worst of the stress of from that thing is GONE.

Bad news is bad/trauma related dreams last night.

This is week is definitely for recovery.

What are your plans?
