Abigail Thorn's latest, TikTok vs. Democracy, is so Brechtian. I really love it. (I also so enjoy referencing Brecht in casual conversation. Putting my weird ten-year old humanities undergrad to some use.)
@greyor@weirder.earth A quick note that it's not from random people. It's from medical professionals. I should probably make that clearer in the thread.
Gods I am really tired. Reading this headline got to me, I am now ugly-sobbing (un bon braillement du samedi matin) right into my porridge: https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cdd4jrj3gp9o
Finally.
Finally.
Aucune surprise. La haine déferlante, personnelle et misogyne qu'elle subit depuis le début de son mandat est simplement injustifiée. https://mstdn.social/@mtlgazette/113357150146657966
Listening to a podcast I usually enjoy, they bring in this «doctor» to talk about trauma and treating chronic illness. I kept having these out-of-body moments listening to really strange statements from the guest, including a description of some really personal odd microdosing experiences. After a whole hour of this, I check up on the «doctor»'s credentials: a «graduate degree» in «naturopathy».
I need to go lie down. I'm so tired.
Not me writing embarrassingly floral thank you notes via email to the people who actually take the time to reject my CV with a message instead of ghosting.
(It is absolutely me.)
My watch alerted me three times that I was having tachycardia today. My day was also pretty shitty, so that tracks!!!
Based on my experiences around the 19 and 20 year olds in my kinesiology programmes, I can tell that whatever ethical, technical, or ecological problems posed by AI, the majority of young people absolutely do not care. I've really been wondering if these young people are seeing the imminent ecological collapse barrelling towards them at top speed so anything inconvenient to them (like *not* using AI to create their study guides or write their emails to their profs or do their homework) seems, to them, well, like a complete waste of time.
Hrm. Are there any web browser plugins that help ferret out LLM-generated text on a page?
