why did Zoom remove the link to download an ICS from recurring meeting invitations????
i'm so annoyed, I'm so close to a unified user management strategy but each link in the chain (Discourse, Zoom, Outlook) is separately missing one piece of functionality that, were any one of them available, would click everything together. But no:
- Discourse won't generate events with the recurrence I need
- Zoom has totally obfuscated ICS files
- Outlook won't create a Contact Group from a CSV
AHHHHHH
Catching up with adding the iPres proceedings to my emulation bibliography, and wow, even for a conference historically very friendly to the discussion, it was a banner year for write-ups of emulation use cases and technology for digital preservation!!! I counted 8 new papers (and even a couple others with glancing mentions that I excluded because the connection was tenuous for the purposes of this bibliography, e.g. one passing mention of emulation in the NDSA levels)
Is there anything to be done about domain name prices skyrocketing once you're in like year 5?
One of mine is now jacking up to ~$70 per year on Namecheap and like, ugh, I really don't want to be paying that but I'm also so tired by the idea of going through the whole rigamarole of transferring to a different service that will do the same thing after a year or two anyway
lmao now they're sending me emails demanding that I register a new MFA device b/c Duo "will no longer work" on mine past Feb (which is not even true, Cisco's docs explicitly say this is end-of-support, not end-of-life) and what hellscape is this we've designed where schools that saddle you with $100k+ of debt for a two-year degree also follow you around for the rest of your life demanding you contribute to the artificial e-waste crisis for the privilege of receiving more credit card spam
Happy World Digital Preservation Day, digipres dot club!
Love and gratitude to all of you out there doing the work - recognized or not, supported or not, paid or not
Have any reMarkable users played with rmfakecloud? Seems like what I've been wanting to sync my tablet in a meaningful way to my Nextcloud, but a little nervous about it
Also curious what kind of hardware folks run it on. Raspberry Pi? Could it maybe run on the same VPS my Nextcloud is already on?
Forget the secret Prince tapes or whatever, release the Ishtar soundtrack
I finally pieced together all the tutorials that folks on the birdsite linked me on APIs, a GUI tool that makes (some) visual sense to me, someone else's Python script, and some half-baked/auto-generated documentation into a successful GET request on an EaaSI deployment and I'm so stunned I forgot what to do next
