So... My StarLabs Horizon bit the dust last week after nearly three months of on-and-off usage. It's definitely a case of hardware failure - I can't even get into the BIOs.
Thank goodness for the one-year warranty; I'll be shipping it back off to the UK in mid-July when I get back from my upcoming trip to Japan.
I really should've gone with a Slimbook laptop instead.
St Hazel's Horsepital is one heck of a janky mess, but in the best possible way. The best part? It's free on Steam.
Just finished binge-watching the second season of "'Tis Time For Torture, Princess". Even though the outcome for each and every "torture" session was obvious, Ex's canned responses were priceless.
Just exactly what do pro hamsters do for a living?
So much for being able to record vocals today. I can hear the neighbour's pool party from my room.
I might be able to do so after dinner this evening.
If you've got an Android-powered retro gaming handheld, it's actually worth checking out itch-dot-io for indie games that you can also play.
Lunch at Fitzroy this time. Last Friday, my friend and I were walking around the neighbourhood after lunch and we checked out a place called Obanzai Mama, near the corner of Smith and Gertrude Streets. I figured my mother would like the place, so I told her about it.
The custom bentos are a bit on the pricey side, but it's completely worth it. That swordfish katsu simply melted in my mouth.
I'll be back for sure.
Location: Obanzai Mama, Fitzroy, Melbourne
Trying out a new place for a late lunch, once again thanks to the Eat Club app. This time around, we've got a vermicelli rice noodle bowl with chicken karaage.
To get things out of the way, this is NOT karaage. If anything, it's like a healthier, less oily version of konbini-chiki.
Having said that, I did like this, and would happily eat it again.
Location: Peter Cat, Malvern.
My Retroid Pocket Flip 2 arrived in the mail today. It's left a mostly good first impression:
Gaming-wise, thanks to GameHub Lite, I can play my Steam games locally, and I intend to clear out my backlog.
The not-so-good news? I can't log into my Google account, which means I can't use the Play Store. It's a massive shame because given the form factor, there is the potential to use the Flip 2 as a makeshift Android-powered mini computer.
The closest thing to a souvlaki donburi I could find. The kebab rice bowl I had in Chiba was a lot more coherent, but this is actually pretty good in its own right.
Location: Hella Good at Chadstone Shopping Centre
Pretty good first impressions of my new Starlabs Horizon laptop so far. I was actually considering getting one of their more powerful models, but the Horizon won me over with its portability.
Also, props to the courier for delivering it a day ahead of schedule.
So... I definitely wasn't expecting to read about Melbourne Victory becoming partners with my old high school.
Seeing "The Book of Mormon" for the second time. I'm looking forward to seeing the changes made to the script.
Having tried out GameHub Lite on my phone, I am honestly excited by the thought of being able to play Steam games locally on ARM-based devices (Android and Linux).
Not everything is going to run, but a game is a game, and this might actually be a boon for indie game developers specialising in 2d games. It's potentially also a cheaper entryway into legit PC gaming given the rising prices of GPUs and RAM sticks, so I'm definitely not complaining.
Step 1: wake up.
Step 2: work out.
Step 3: drink a protein drink. (Musashi Australia, if you want a brand ambassador who's not an athlete, I'll be waiting.)
Step 4a: dig into overnight protein oats for breakfast.
Step 4b: boot up Linux laptop and sudo [insert distro-specific update command here] to get things up to date, like a boss.
It's been unusually chilly by summer standards lately, but the warm (not hot, thankfully) weather will return this coming week.
