Sheetmusic4J 0.0.3 is out! I released 0.0.1 as an open question: does anyone want a native Java(FX) sheet music library? Multiple LinkedIn comments, and some are answered now with support for ABC notation and Guitar Pro. Plus a big round of engraving improvements.

Write-up + video demo:

Sheetmusic4J: a new open source Java(FX) library that reads MusicXML and renders sheet music directly on a JavaFX Canvas, no WebView needed.

I'm building it for MelodyMatrix's upcoming Learn section, where the sheet music follows playback: a moving marker, notes highlighted as they play. A static PDF can't do that, so I built a library that stays interactive from code.

Java on Banana Pi: I tested the ARM BPI-M4 Zero and RISC-V BPI-F3 for my 2026 single-board-computer series.

The M4 Zero beats the Raspberry Pi Zero 2 on every benchmark, up to 47% faster, and it's the cheapest board in the whole comparison. I also got @pi4j blinking an RGB LED on it, my first working GPIO example on a non-Raspberry Pi board!

MelodyMatrix has a new website: a static, multilingual Hugo site in 8 languages. The already existing Vaadin app still handles licenses, data, API, etc.

Also shipped: MelodyMatrix 1.1.0, with a new audio spectrum view, falling note blocks in the Piano view, and better view/soundfont/audio sync.

Built with Theia IDE and the Claude API, same workflow as used for @lottie4j.

Read all about it in this blog:
