@ij @echo_pbreyer I hear you (coincidently I am a citizen of Hungary). But Orban already has control of institutions such as the constitutional court and almost all media outlets. But that doesn't mean that these institutions are problematic - it means Orban is. And he is definitely not a product of social media (not a very important factor in H), but of capitalism failing working class people. Just like Trump. Just like AfD. Just like the issues with social media.

@ij @echo_pbreyer "Twitter" as a public service could be democratic because its management would be subject to elections... while I love federated platforms (obviously), this here is a social bubble of friendly and intelligent, open minded people. We would have huge problems if everyone moved here from Twitter, it would destroy Mastodon. Funding as you say is key of course, but also who would protect against bullying, protect minorities etc...
