"A ground operation in , which is under intense bombardment, will also have a disastrous impact on the entire humanitarian aid system in which is already overwhelmed and struggling to provide support to a population facing the real and imminent risk of genocide."

I'm happy to announce Kohtuus: our new association for advocacy in !

We hope to use this association as a vehicle to stimulate better discussion in Finland and find ways to move beyond the all-encompassing growthism.

Feel free to reach out if you're interested!

p.s. "Kohtuus" is a deep-rooted Finnish term and common sense that translates roughly to . The stylized logo breaks the term to "koht" which means "soon", and "uus", "new".

@pluralistic on "isn't 'enshittification' the same as 'capitalism'":

"The capitalism of 20 years ago made space for a wild and wooly internet, a space where people with disfavored views could find each other, offer mutual aid, and organize."

I find this answer weak. A much simpler explanation is that capitalism 20 years ago wasn't "better", but corporations just hadn't yet had enough time to capture all web traffic to their walled gardens.

"The world is changed by average everyday ordinary people who have had enough and are willing to stand up for a country and a planet that is more humane, peaceful and just.

If you are a human being, stand up for your planet before it's too late."

If you hoard N95 masks at the beginning of an epidemic in order to profit from selling them, you are considered an asshole. This is, I believe, because N95 masks are scarce necessities, and profiting from scarce necessities is considered immoral.

However, if you hoard apartments in order to profit from renting or selling them, you are considered a smart investor. This even though apartments are scarce necessities, which are much harder to turn abundant than N95 masks.

Got to love Finnish Christmas carols. Some of the most popular have topics like the loneliness of grandparents living alone in the countryside, the cruelty done to caged birds, and the death of a child.

But we also have a few happy ones! For example:

We're all mother's piglets. /
Life lasts only a moment /
and it's gloomy and tedious. /
We're all mother's piglets.
