When creating PDFs, avoid using "Print to PDF." A screen reader user may still be able to access the text of PDFs created this way, but heading structure, alternative text, and any other tag structure will be lost. Using "Save As" or "Export" can preserve these tags.
I'll be speaking (online) at the Agile Brigade meetup tomorrow night on the Anti-Anxiety Toolkit. This is a collection of proven neuroscience and psychology hacks to immediately let go of that anxiety that you might be feeling. We'll talk about the science first and then will practice these techniques together so that you will be able to experience how they work.

@mlevison @wouterla @flowchainsensei we all have mea culpa moments, but sharing is the key. Interesting thought thread regardless
@johannarothman it’s an excellent course. I highly recommend this for folks wanting to improve writing for blogs, articles, and even thinking about starting a book
Since moving off Twitter/X/whatever to (mostly) here, I have about 1/3 the followers, but roughly the same level of engagement. Also, twice the scolding. But roughly 0% of the Nazis. That last bit is what keeps me here.
People who don't have chronic illnesses may not realize just how much time and energy we use up, just navigating the convoluted health system in the U.S.
I have spent over a week trying to straighten out a snafu with just one medication. This is typical (names changed):
Me thru online portal: I need a new Rx sent to Joe's Specialty Pharmacy.
Nurse: we sent that 2 wks ago.
Me: okay, they didn't get it.
Nurse sends pic of new Rx they sent (as if to say "SEE")
Me: I see the problem. You sent it to regular Joe's Pharmacy. It has to be sent to Joe's Specialty Pharmacy.
Nurse: it says Joe's Pharmacy.
Me (steam rising from ears) It has to be SPECIALTY Pharmacy, you could even send it to their former name: Doug's Specialty Pharmacy. They'll get it.
New Nurse: Sorry for the inconvenience. Somehow it was sent to the regular Pharmacy. We have now sent it to the Specialty Pharmacy.
Joe's Specialty Pharmacy: we still don't have it. We can see on the computer where your Doc sent it first to regular Joe's, and then inexplicably to Jane's Specialty Pharmacy. But there is no process in place for us to get it transferred over here.
Me: you've got to be kidding me. Does this happen a lot?
JSP: oh yeah, esp. this year. It's been happening a lot.
do you want us to contact them and leave ridiculously explicit instructions?
Me: God, yes. I can't talk to them again.
Today, after nearly two weeks of back and forth, I was able to refill the medication, which won't arrive until four days from now.
And this is just one thing. I, and people like me, go through this crap all the time. It's exhausting.
@firepoet @lisacrispin @gdinwiddie the concept of one or more tables in the virtual cafe was interesting
#PPOD: What may look like a strangely nearby galaxy is actually a normal rocket's exhaust plume -- but unusually backlit. Like noctilucent clouds, the plume's brightness is caused by the Twilight Effect, where an object is high enough to be illuminated by the twilight Sun, even when the observer on the ground experiences the darkness of night. The spiral shape is caused by the Falcon rocket reorienting to release satellites in different directions. Credit: Seung Hye Yang
Careful. It'll drop you like a bag of dirt. Be the bigger succulent and walk away. 🌵
Branches normally begin to appear when a saguaro reaches 50 to 70 years of age. In areas of lower precipitation, it may take up to 100 years before arms appear.

@abbotofunreason yes, but I usually find out later that it was obvious only at a certain period of time.
I’ve learned that certain types of knowledge falls out of favor.
Some Examples:
- long division
- learning multiplication tables
- democracy
First and foremost, alt text must always be informative and descriptive of the content in the image. It can have character and humor, but it still needs to be informative and descriptive. Alt text is not a place to add easter eggs or jokes for sighted users.
Headings serve as landmarks for users and help them understand how different pieces of information relate to each other. For example, a section with a level 3 headings probably provides information in support of information provided in the previous level 2 heading, and so on.
The same photo could appear on three different pages and require different alt text for each instance. The alt text for an image can vary, depending on the context of the image, its role on the page, and the intended message.
