I know it's silly, but I use "half a dozen" or "dozen" as a kinda-fuzzy and/or more conversational 6 or 12 respectively. If I say 6, it is exact. But sometimes I don't know the exact amount, so if it's more than "a few" and less than "a lot" I will use these in my prose.
