@shakil_prof I was worried at first as I read the post that Fletcher was ignoring the value of (which sometimes produces checklists of formal characteristics of things that audiences of technical and professional writing expect). But she came ‘round to that later. This is a good post and relevant to and folks, too.

I have come to believe that students should not be able to graduate law school without taking and passing a seminar entitled, "Microsoft Word for Law Students: Formatting Indentions; Using Styles and Headings; Accepting Track Changes and Deleting Comments"

@jsherkow I started using back in the 80s while still predominantly using . I made money typing papers for other college students, in the beginning on a typewriter. (I charged a high per-page rate but corrected grammar and citation errors.) I preferred Word then. Now, I much prefer but that makes it impossible to collaborate with legal colleagues. Oh well…

@jsherkow I got dinged on a peer teaching evaluation for teaching skills in a 1L course: “We shouldn’t teach computer skills in law school. The students really seemed to appreciate the content, though.” (I give 2 such sessions during 1L.) Many students don’t know Word at all when they arrive. Even after training, many write memos in then copy/paste them into Word; then the real formatting problems begin.

’s Powell reports thoughtfully and carefully, but the tenor among the debate’s public participants saddens me. I’m and came of age in the 1980s during the crisis and remember that not all could be openly supportive and that not all those who publicly supported then really believed in it. (Same is true now.) Seeing people on the same side of the issue picnicking on each other saddens me.

@jvagle I have some hope we can adopt a true notice and consent regime. But as you say, it’s not there yet. Article says: ‘True informed consent means “that the person fully understands the procedure, they fully understand the risks … how those risks will be mitigated, and … what their rights are,” she explains. But this rarely happens in a comprehensive way—especially when companies market adorable robot helpers promising clean floors at the click of a button.’

friends: I'm on a project with a long report where I must ensure its compliance with and other federal regulations relating to . I'm hoping to go beyond mere legal compliance, though, and seek state-of-the-art accessibility resources. I can search the web (and have), but I'm interested in resources you have actually used or supervised others using that you have found especially useful. Boost plz!
