Mexico plans to vaccinate nearly all of its population against COVID-19 by the end of 2021 after reaching accords with pharmaceutical companies and the WHO-backed COVAX plan, the government said on Tuesday.
The country had allocated $1.659 billion for the purchases of the vaccines, which will be free to the public.

Mexico reported on Monday 28,115 new coronavirus infections and 2,789 deaths, both record one-day increases, as the health ministry changed how it classifies some cases and deaths.
Total confirmed cases now stand at 789,780, with a total reported death toll of 81,877.
The health ministry said the record jump includes cases and deaths that date back to June.
True total figures are likely significantly higher due to limited testing.

Mexico’s confirmed coronavirus cases rose to 720,858 on Friday, according to updated data from the health ministry, along with a reported death toll of 75,844.
Authorities reported 5,401 new cases along with 405 deaths on Friday, but the true figures are likely significantly higher due to little testing.

Average number of deaths reported each day in Mexico falls by more than 140 over the last 3 weeks, 18% of its previous peak
COVID-19 infections are decreasing in Mexico, with 4,535 new infections reported on average each day. That’s 65% of the peak — the highest daily average reported on July 31.
There have been 684,113 infections and 72,179 coronavirus-related deaths reported in the country since the pandemic began.

The confirmed coronavirus death toll in Mexico on Friday topped 70,000 after the government reported more than 500 new deaths, a grim milestone for a country among those most affected by the pandemic.
Health officials late on Friday reported 534 new deaths linked to the virus, bringing the total to 70,183. Another 5,935 cases bring the total to 658,299.
More than 900,000 people have died worldwide from the pandemic, with the deadliest outbreaks in the United States, Brazil, India and Mexico.

Mexico reported 4,647 new confirmed cases of #coronavirus infection and 611 additional fatalities on Wednesday, bringing its totals to 647,507 infections and 69,095 deaths, according to updated health ministry data.

The Trump administration on Tuesday announced plans to seek senior-level talks with Mexico over imports of perishable fruits and vegetable as part of a broader series of actions meant to bolster U.S. farmers, raising the possibility of future tariffs.
Mexico, in response, said it would seek to “defend the preferential access of Mexican agricultural exports to the United States”.

Mexico is due to take part in clinical trials of an Italian vaccine being developed against the coronavirus, Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard said on Tuesday.
