Back story - for discipline, my mom was a spanker. Never thought much of it, other than just that I didn’t like it, so wasn’t going to be a ‘spanker’ with my own kids.

Then today in a totally unrelated context, I read something to the tune of ‘this hurts me more than it hurts you’ and holy shit was that ever triggering. I suspect there is more going on around that, that I haven’t reconciled.

Doing some pressure washing and yard cleaning before stuff starts to really bloom and bud - this came down from the Oak that’s full of dead wood, and it looks like the woodpeckers have been working it pretty hard😀

@vk3tcp @KI5SMN yeah - I’m mostly referring to the folx that do it (or any preparation) in a weird hoarding way instead of the more practical method/volume when I say I don’t get a specific mind-set or mentality.

@vk3tcp yeah - that’s a mentality I don’t get. They stock up on guns and ammo because ‘they’ll come for your stuff!” But odds are, since they stocked up on guns instead of useful stuff, they’ll be the ones out “coming for people’s stuff.”

@KI5SMN yeah - we do have some of those in our bug out bags, and I guess if it was desperate, we’re close enough to a stream that I could haul buckets and boil it, but being able to pump straight from the well seems much less of a headache 😃

@KI5SMN awesome sauce - yup, we’re the same. We could eat for a couple months. Wouldn’t be fancy, but we’d be fed. The thing I need to up our game on is water. We keep a weeks backup in jugs that we rotate, but on my short to-do list is adding a manual hand-pump to our well.

I feel like ‘those types’ have given prepping a bad name. Having a well-stocked pantry was something that people who had the means used to just do - and no one made it weird.

With all the talk of potential recession etc - it’s also just a good way to stock up at low prices, so you can shop less when the economy is doing wild gyrations. This morning we’re eating oatmeal that we paid 4x less for than the current price at the grocery 😀.

Stock up a little at a time, when you find a good deal.

@jordinn well - they do have a point there…any story that involves a 7-11 and Doritos at 2am is certainly bound to be a humdinger.😀
