Buying ebooks on Amazon means you're only getting a license to read on their machine.

However, you can buy my ebooks directly through my store. And you'll have an ebook file delivered through BookFunnel.

You can download it to your computer and then send it to your Kindle (or any device you read on).

Right now, I have 20 coupons that'll let you buy Kraken War (Dragons 2) for 99ct.

Code is: ReleaseTheKraken

Book 1, Dorelle's Journey, is free.

@thirstybear Do you mean for a project charter or something else? I have plenty of templates from my project management books, but I need more info.

It is weird to see the continuing fallacy in the software world that 'source code' is the most valuable asset, by far.

The most valuable asset is the knowledge, design decisions, rationale and intent encoded therein. Just because we don't have good languages to encode that does not change the value proposition.

That misplaced value equation is also at the root of the LLM-for-SE hype.

“From 1952 to ‘66, 7,715 aircraft were lost and 8,547 people killed. Most of these accidents were blamed on pilots[..] [T]he Air Force did not take [alternative explanations] seriously until they began to develop intercontinental ballistic missiles: there were no pilots to blame for the frequent and devastating explosions of these liquid-propellant missiles. In having to confront factors other than pilot error, the Air Force began to treat safety as a system problem”

Sometimes when I get involved in big and highly charged conversations with engineers I like to say:

- we don't seem to have evidence about this thing that seems very important to us
- what would it cost to get that evidence?
- what is it costing us to NOT have it?? (CRITICAL question here!)

There is something here--I can't quite put my finger on it--that reminds me of the way in which large companies have mandated the use of (e.g.) blockchain or LLMs. That the central policymakers are driven by an abstract vision of a productive, mechanized future, and that those policymakers are also far removed from the work as it is actually performed.

"A truly great engineering organization is one where perfectly normal, workaday software engineers, with decent software engineering skills and an ordinary amount of expertise, can consistently move fast, ship code, respond to users, understand the systems they’ve built, and move the business forward a little bit more, day by day, week by week."
