Something that still frustrates me is how "building the right thing” and "building it right" are sometimes presented as a binary choice: "What's the point in building it right if we're building the wrong thing?" Let's permutate this problem. 1. Building the wrong thing, and building it wrong 2. Building the wrong thing, and building it right 3. Building the right thing, and building it wrong 4. Building the right thing, and building it right One of these is a rational choice. The other 3 make no sense when we think about them. ‘When we're building the wrong thing, do we *know* we're building the wrong thing? And if we do, why are we building it? If we're building the right thing, and we *know* we're building the right thing, why would we bodge the job? And if we *don’t know* whether we're building the right thing or the wrong thing, on which basis should we rationally proceed in order to find out?

The risk with removing parts of your delivery process that you think you don't need anymore because "AI can do it" - such as teasing out the mental model of how the system works from the heads of people who own the system - is that you get to discover, often way too late, what some of the purposes of that practice were and the benefits you didn't recognize you were getting.

Assumptions you don't know you're making. Unknown unknowns.
