Lena Reinhard's comprehensive guide to skip-level 1-1s is a great place to start if you are thinking about setting these up https://www.lenareinhard.com/articles/effective-skip-level-meetings-guide-templates-managers-of-managers
@synlogic too often, the hiring organization doesn't realize that they're dealing with humans who expect *reasonable* consideration.
I never expect total reciprocity, but I do expect that my potential clients will respect me and my time.
Consultants and Candidates: No Free Work. Ask for Reasonable Compensation https://www.jrothman.com/mpd/2024/05/consultants-and-candidates-no-free-work-ask-for-reasonable-compensation/ #hiring #JobSearch
A new day. A new chance to succeed.
I've planned out the day in detail.
Listed everything I want to accomplish on this last day of the month.
The chores are few. The list, short.
While I had big aspirations for the month, mostly I've come to see what I'm doing is recovery work.
Recovering from existential crisis turns out to be a long process. Being reminded every day of how tenuous life might be.
Continuing anyway.
I hope you find the strength you need to continue #today
The early bird registration for @dev2next ends May 31st. Please make sure to grab your tickets before the price goes up.
Why I'm not on Twitter any more.

I know there are more important things going on in the world…
And I hope my Midlist Indie Author Mindset book will help more writers make a living in a world that needs more creativity, vision, justice, and joy.
It’s currently on Kickstarter. If you’re a writer, I hope you check it out.
@maaretp OMG.
I think this is a perfect example of micromanagement, where someone above you in the hierarchy is telling you that what you know is irrelevant and what they know matters. That way, they can tell you what to do.
Even if they want you to do something that makes no sense.
That is a definition of micromanagement and is what you are experiencing. So sorry you are living through this.

@maaretp That's a very generous interpretation of their actions. I would call what they're doing "micromanagement."
However, the trust piece is real. The more often a team delivers *something* that these people can see helps the supposed decision-makers relax so they can trust the people doing the work.
And, I might be wrong.
Coming soon... ish: the #ryoms Kickstarter.

Even if you don't want to run your own email, every #sysadmin should know how it works, how the components fit together, and why they can ignore MTA-STS.

The difference between Daniel Ek and Elon Musk is that Ek isn’t rich enough to not care that he just tanked a company by gutting it.
