Well dang. The TTS plugin I'm using for Bonesweeper uses GDNative Rust bindings that don't yet support Godot 3.5 (issue #910 in godot-rust). Godot recently had an integrated TTS solution merged (PR #61316 in godotengine), but that missed the Godot 3.5 release window.

Looks like SteamOS 3.3 went stable while I was asleep. Audio in Full Throttle and Day of the Tentacle's Linux ports should now behave out of the box on the Steam Deck https://steamcommunity.com/games/1675200/announcements/detail/3401924854795478415
