This year’s Horizon Europe #RESONATE Annual Meeting took place in Padua 🇮🇹 and brought together leading experts in the field of Nature-based Therapy (#NbT) research from around the globe. 🌍
We have made a lot of progress throughout the last year and are excited for the coming phase of the project, which will focus on finally getting to analyse all the data we collected! 🤓
Isolde Gottwald has been awarded the DOC Fellowship by the Austrian Academy of Sciences to pursue her doctoral project focusing on strategies for climate- & environmental communication in entertainment media. 📺
Project Title: “New Directions for Climate Change Communication through Entertainment Media: Towards an Integration of Psychological Theories and Mechanisms.”
Welcome to the team! 🙌
🌍 Today marks the 10th anniversary of the Sustainable Development Goals! Together with the UN Global Compact Network Austria we are raising the SDG Flag to show our sustained commitment to climate action, gender equality, biodiversity, and decent work!
🇺🇳 The #SDGs and #Agenda2030 provide a roadmap for an inclusive, just, and sustainable society. With only 5 more years until 2030 it is up to each and every one to make a difference!

Maja Grünzner is a psychologist, systemic & family therapist (in training) and has been a member of the #EnvironmentalPsychology Lab for many years. She has recently completed her PhD that combines her professional and academic interests in sustainability and human behaviour:
♻️ Small Choices, Big Impact: Tackling Microplastics through Behavioural Science

🎉 Congratulations to Maja Grünzner on successfully completing her #PhD defence! 🥳✨
She delivered a presentation on Behavioural Approaches to #Microplastics and Potential Solutions (“Tracing the Path from Expert Perceptions to Consumer Behaviour”) that was so well thought through that even the technical barrier of presenting years of research through Zoom was no issue. 🤖
Valeria Vitale re-joined our team as a post-doc researcher in January, contributing to two Horizon Europe projects.
🔹 #GOLIAT – Investigating public perceptions of 5G-related electromagnetic hypersensitivity across 11 countries.
🔹 #SOS-ZEROPOL2030 – Examining what drives people to mitigate environmental pollution across 5 countries.
Welcome back, Valeria!
📸Valeria Vitale shared her research at the International Conference on #EnvironmentalPsychology (ICEP 2025) in Vilnius, Lithuania.
📊She introduced “nature selection” as a new #emotionregulation strategy and validated a scale through studies conducted both in English and Italian.
“Feelings for the future: #Emotions as a driving force for #Climateprotection”
Christina Barz will hold a talk at the Vienna Climate Talk as part of the Vienna Sustainability Festival 2025.

💡 Katharina Koller was accepted into the FFG Women Innovator Program.
Over the coming year she will receive expert mentoring and will work on how her current research on the social dimension of #climatechange and game-based approaches can be turned into products and services with societal impact. 🌍
Besides handling the EnvPsy Lab’s administrative matters, Rebecca Gil Segovia recently took on the role of third-party project administrator for the entire Department of Cognition, Emotion, and Methods in Psychology at the University of Vienna. 🙌
With her additionally running her own psychotherapeutic practice, focusing on trauma related, culture specific, and gender issues, we’re happy that she still always manages to find time for us! 😊
📸 Valentina Hampejs presented her research at the International Conference on Environmental Psychology (ICEP) in Vilnius, Lithuania.
📊 Using insights from 18,000 nature visits, she explored how connecting with nature can boost your physical, mental and social #wellbeing.
We recently had a high school student visit us at the lab. She is considering studying psychology but wanted to know what that actually looks like if you aren’t a therapist.
The future of environmental psychology looks very bright, especially if the next generation of researchers is so dedicated that they even visit universities during their summer break ;)
@ Jana Zeilinger thanks for stopping by, it was a pleasure to meet you!
📻️ EnvPsy on air!
Valentina Hampejs provides listeners with a scientific perspective on Austria’s cherished relationship with the sea – a complicated and seemingly insatiable longing, given that Austria is landlocked.
