Michael Stapelberg is the inventor and maintainer of the #i3 window manager, a former #Debian #Linux Developer, and creator of the Go appliance platform gokrazy. Some realtalk and call for help (thread): for a bit over a year, I've been somewhat regularly organizing the domestic #NixOS and #RustLang meetups in #Mannheim and #Heidelberg. What started as a somewhat spontaneous collaboration of two people that went to university together quickly moved into an already established non-profit association to allow more people to participate in the organization and shape the form of our meetups. The truth is, it was and still is mostly a one man show.

Back in January, we had our 5th Rust Your Engines meetup, kindly hosted at @unimannheim in #Mannheim. The recordings are finally edited and uploaded. If you want to learn more about the lessons and advice @mo8it has on teaching #RustLang, make sure to check it out!

We're pleased to announce the official release of #Lix 2.92 "Bombe glacée".

This release brings many subtle stability and helpfulness improvements:
- generating opt-out errors for using deprecated language features
- config files support relative and ~ paths
- alt+left, alt+right navigate by words in nix repl
- several error message improvements
- fewer crashes
- the daemon event loop was rewritten and is faster and more maintainable

Rust Your Engines is a meetup for people in the Rhine-Neckar region that are interested in the Rust programming language. The meetup begins with talks related to Rust, and ends with casual networking and exchange between the meetup participants. It takes place at the Institute for Business Informatics of Mannheim University (B6, 26), room A 203 (second floor). All participants must adhere to our Code of Conduct.

The event is organized by Hackerstolz, a non-profit association from Mannheim with a focus on digital education. We are always looking for new active members, and for students, membership is free. If you are interested in organizing workshops, meetups or hackathons related to digital education and/or technology, get in touch with us at the meetup or send an email to info@hackerstolz.de. Our next @rust :rust: meetup is happening on Tuesday, January 14, 2025 in #Mannheim. This time, it's kindly hosted by Prof. Dr. Roland Leißa's group at the Institute for Business Informatics of @unimannheim. They are researching compiler IRs, program optimization, automatic parallelisation and domain specific languages.

As talk, we will hear "Teaching Rust" by @mo8it, the maintainer of Rustlings and a teacher of Rust at Mainz University.
