Out hiking today with a Solos group from the UK who were enjoying the warm sun and stunning scenery of the Taha del Pitres. Hiked from Fondales to Ferrierola and onwards to Busquistar, and Portugos. A cold beer at Pitres to finish.

Some call the Northern Bald Ibis the ugliest bird in the world 😱 they might not be the best looker in town but they are full of character thanks to their unique looks! Whilst in the Cadiz province for the week we visited the critically endangered birds yesterday. It looks like the reintroduction site is doing well with many pairs sitting on and building nests. Full on winter mountaineering conditions up in the Sierra Nevada. Large areas of ice in some areas with high avalanche risks in others. Crampons, ice axe, helmet and experience essential.
Been out with some beginners who are taking their first steps at being able to ice axe break. Snow a bit soft but lots of fun nevertheless.
After 20 years I still get amazed that sometimes we can see the Riff mountains in Morocco from our mountains here in Spain. These pictures were taken yesterday on our walk. Long distance views were hazy yesterday but you could still see the mountains over 200km away. In each picture you can see the mountains, even snow on one of the shots. Europe to Africa.

Always nice to discover a new hiking area, especially after 24 years. Yesterday we did a circular walk around the hills surrounding the village of Lagos near Motril, on the southern slopes of the Sierra de Lujar range. Sunny with no wind so felt like spring had arrived with temps up to 23C.

April showers and its only February! Another threatening wet weather spell inbound to the Alpujarra
The Cerro de Caballo (3009m) in Spain's Sierra Nevada doesn't look like it's summit is 2400m vertical above the town of Lanjarón in the Alpujarra. Its deceptive, but nevertheless a lovely mountain that's relatively unfrequented due to its difficult and remote access. I believe it's also Europe most southerly and westerly 3000m peak.
