Rainfall warning in effect as a mild atmospheric river points its fire hose at us. 95-135mm expected in the next 24 hours. The airport officially received 49mm on the 10th. Alberniweather recorded 47mm so perhaps we are not undercounting as much as I thought.
Very heavy rain should begin this afternoon and go through the night.
Our rain gauge is a bit of an “underreporter” and even it is already at 42mm. I would guess 60mm+
some serious weather on the north coast!

Snowing on Christmas Day on Vancouver Island doesn’t happen very often. 😃
❄️
Current picture in Coombs.
At least a few people woke up to a white Christmas in #PortAlberni!!
Precipitation / Atmospheric River starting to move up the Island. It is cold enough for sleet and snow to fall. If you are driving today, be careful, watch for switching modes of rain, sleet and snow. It’s going to be messy all day. Christmas Day should be calmer.
Merry Christmas to all who celebrate. ❤️🎄

Dramatic skies for the penultimate sunset before the shortest day and solstice tomorrow. (Winter Solstice occurs at 7AM Dec 21 PST)
raining, sun, clouds, sleet if you're a little higher up... but it's 5°C. Typical Winter in the West Coast :)
