What if they put in the middle of the city? And why does the Guardian say the structures are "papier-mache, cardboard and wooden", when someone who lives there (@luccamerel) says they're mostly plastic?

This does not sound like fun.

Every time we get a little bit of snow, homeowners and businesses dump PILES of salt onto sidewalks and parking lots. The city and county aren't much better, but they're trying to reduce salt use thru brining the streets before snowstorms.

The salt all ends up in our water.

I keep remembering Colorado using NO SALT on their mountain roads, opting instead for fine gravel. Seems like a better way.

"And Man said, 'F*** you!'"

World Party was joyous and exuberant, and simultaneously forceful and urgent.

"Let’s be clear: collective punishment is not war. Starving people to death is not war. Bulldozing cemeteries is not war. Firing on humanitarian convoys is not war. All of those things are war crimes. International law is very clear about this. (And, by the way, American politicians are also very clear about this when the perpetrator of these crimes isn’t an ally.)"

This story was written by a reporter from Winona MN, just up the river from here. Perot State Park, just across the river from Winona in Wisconsin, has for years posted nitrate warnings at the water sources.

Our region is known for its awesome resources, but are destroying it.

Hoboken NJ was among the first cities to implement "Vision Zero," with a goal of zero traffic fatalities in the city. A big part of it is "daylighting", which is banning parking close to pedestrian crossings.

A better idea: Ban cars from cities entirely. No place is more pleasant for shopping and hanging out than a downtown free of cars. Treat downtowns like outdoor shopping malls... "This space is for walking, store your car in the hinterlands."

Hovde wants to demolish some historic buildings in downtown . The city will allow it, but only if they "preserve terracotta tiling from the front facades of the buildings."

Lemme go out on a limb and make a prediction: After the buildings are gone, the developer will say the tiles were "destroyed in the process" or "it was impossible to save them" or "they were lost."

Such conditions need teeth, and hefty fines if the tiles are lost or destroyed.
