@Andres4NY We have a similar issue. I like higher cadences while she likes lower cadences. We have to make compromises in the interests of domestic tranquility and of bike stability (our tandem is a Double Vision recumbent, which introduces other issues).

Tandem riding is an exercise in communication.

@Andres4NY Tandem rider here. Most non-tandem riders don't seem to know that the pedals are (normally) chained together. They move in sync, at equal cadence to each other. It's possible to ride solo on most tandems.

The balance is sensitive to the movements of both riders. If they had different cadences, they'd fall out of sync, and the balance would be effed up.

Put the "fixie guy" in the stoker seat. He can Just Pedal while the derailleur gal does the shifting.

@mekkaokereke "Well, what about the marketplace of ideas huh? Not very inclusive of you!"

Bad ideas get rejected. That's how marketplaces work.

@bryan Not crazy at all, but kind of expensive (though diner car meals are included in the fare). Pros: comfy place to sleep, meals included, cut the line at boarding time. Cons: sometimes you're on the lower level (can't see as well), hard to see out the other side of the train (if you're assigned a cabin on the beach-facing side, GREAT, but on the other side, ???), you don't interact with other passengers as much.

If you can afford it, you should try it at least once (we use CC points).

@bryan A lot of people are still processing. Be patient and give them time.

While we're memorializing #PhilLesh, I feel compelled to bring up something that only happened at Phil shows... the "organ donor rap." Between the closer and the encore, Phil would explain that he was still alive because someone was willing to be parted out to let others continue living. He would say that if you had the chance to receive a life-saving transplant, "of course you would." So you should offer your organs, since "fair is fair."

A donor let us enjoy Phil for an extra 26 years.
