"Yayyy #PersonalTransport"
A bike is also #PersonalTransport. As is an e-bike.
"I like having a car to get me where I’m going and back..."
If where you're going *requires* a car, you live too far from where you need to go regularly. If you're dependent on a car, you should consider moving.

Electric cars are still cars. This story offers a concise run-down of the environmental costs of EVs..
"Your lovely new vehicle comes with a kind of embedded carbon debt. The factory that made it – the industrial plant that shaped and stamped and assembled all that steel and glass and plastic and rubber into a vehicle – emitted a lot of CO2 in the process."
And then there's the mining for the battery's minerals.
Point (1) is something I hadn't thought of, and I hope you're right on that one.
Re (2) and (3)... They should wind back the clock to 1990 and scrap the plans for "Spectrum II", and incorporate a new basketball arena into the downtown convention center, which was under construction in the early 90's. As it is, the proposed new arena is right next door to the "train shed."
I worked near #Philadelphia's Chinatown neighborhood for two years.
There's a move to put a "cap" on the freeway that divides the community. That's good. But they are threatened by yet another unnecessary arena.
While I'm a fan of downtown arenas (as opposed to putting them in the suburbs), the basketball team is playing in a shiny new building (built in the mid-1990's).
I'm tired of billionaires coming with hat in hand every generation.
One of the few small and affordable electric vehicles made in USA is getting phased out in order to build more monstrosities...
"The new electric Hummer... has a battery which alone weighs as much as a small car and contains half the amount of lithium needed to power an entire bus full of people, while the Rivian R1S, ...deemed worse for the environment than a decent chunk of gas-powered cars, weighs as much as an adult African elephant."

The days are numbered for the stadium where I saw John Fogerty, Tracy Chapman, The Grateful Dead, and others... all on the same day in 1989.
"...there’s something about the simpler, stripped-down gameday experience that I’ve always preferred to a patch of grass surrounded by a point-of-sale processional. Nostalgia is a powerful narcotic, but the Coliseum experience stands out in an age when 99% of America’s sporting temples have come to resemble shopping malls."

Reason number ∞ why I hate Texas...
"A school district in Texas [Spring Branch] has canceled a planned field trip to see a theater production of James and the Giant Peach after parents complained..."

Four dead in Ohio" -- Neil Young
OTD in 1970, four students killed for protesting an unjust war (or just wandering too close while navigating between classes).
1200 car batteries per week thrown away in the UK alone!
"Currently 1.3m single-use vapes are thrown away every week in the UK, ...each vape contains on average 0.15g of lithium, which equates to 10 tonnes thrown away over a year in the UK – enough to make around 1,200 electric car batteries."

This is just too funny to be real, but.... it's real.

A view of the La Crosse riverfront during the crest of the 2023 flood. #MississippiRiver #flood
The public image of "A Simpler Time", and an image captured yesterday during A Wetter Time.
High water in La Crosse, where melting snow raised the Mississippi River to its third-highest level ever.
